Tangled & Dark - A Tribute to Bonnie Raitt
8:00PM, $20 in advance, $25 at the door

Singer-songwriter, Bonnie Raitt, known for her soulful, bluesy voice and slide guitar work recorded 18 albums, beginning with her self-titled album released in1971, to her most recent, “Souls Alike” in 2005. She is best known for her critically acclaimed 1989 album “Nick of Time,” which won her four Grammy’s, and her biggest commercial success in 1990 with “Luck of the Draw,” which won three Grammy’s and spawned two hit singles, “Something to Talk About” and “I Can’t Make You Love Me.”

Tangled and Dark, features five female vocalists exploring Raitt’s career from the 70’s through the millennium, a co-production between Center for the Arts and Sierra Sirens Productions, which consists of local performers Lorraine Gervais and Brielle Morgan. Gervais has been performing in the northern California area for the better part of thirty years with various jazz combos as well as her own R&B band, Lorraine and the Burning Sensations. Morgan, a newer addition to the foothill music scene, performing everything from jazz to opera in the Sacramento and Nevada City areas, is excited to have this opportunity to honor one of her musical icons.

Also featured is Beth Moore, who has been performing for many years, most recently with local R&B bands Power of Twelve and Juicy; Kate Fingerson, who also sings with Power of Twelve, dances with Earth Rhythms and acts in various theater projects in Sacramento, as well as Santa Barbara vocalist Erin Berkowitz, who most recently performed in July with Morgan in Seasons of Love, a Broadway revue at St. Joseph’s Cultural Center in Grass Valley.

This is the fourth show put on by Sierra Sirens, their most recent success being In the Still of the Night a Tribute to Cole Porter, on September 21, 2008 in Nevada City where Gervais, Morgan and Sacramento jazz vocalist Vivian Lee, performed to a sold-out crowd in a re-created 1930’s style atmosphere. Be on the lookout for “Rhapsody in Blue” A Tribute to Gershwin, June 13-14, and “Honkey-Tonk Angels”, the Ladies of Classic Country, August 22nd, both at Center for the Arts.

The ladies will be accompanied by a rocking seven piece band including Steve Wall on slide and acoustic guitar, Larry Peterson on electric guitar, Bob Villwock on piano, Charlie Faber on bass, Mike McMullen on saxophone, Mark McCartney on drums and Rob Holland on percussion.
